Radiology assistant by day, self-proclaimed “gamer, nerd and Star Wars-lover” by night. This is 27-year-old Christina Rios from San Angelo, Texas. And that’s just scratching the surface!
Known on Instagram as @_r2d2lover_, this beauty, both inside and out, is passionate about well, what she’s passionate about! These days, it’s easy for girls, and even grown women, to fall into the “lemming trap.” Christina proves that you don’t have to be defined by society. It’s much better and more fulfilling to be the Modern Muse (i.e. YOURSELF) that each of you are!
In Her Own Words
“I’m a hard working Radiology assistant and have a passion for photography, video games, and being creative. I believe my Instagram content inspires young girls and women not to be ashamed of who you are or what you like. To be bold and passionate about what you love. That the guys aren’t the only hardcore gamers and to not be afraid to let your geek girl flag fly!”
“…be who you are…you don’t have to be afraid or embarrassed to show your nerdy side…“
What inspired you to do the work that you do/motivates you today?
“I love caring and helping people, which is why I chose the medical field.
“I also love connecting with other awesome women who share the same passion for nerd culture. I feel sometimes young girls and women have a tough time in the gaming and nerd community. While 48% of women in the United States alone [have] reported playing video games, only 6% identify as gamers. They may feel too ashamed, shy, or intimidated to make connections, make friends or go for their passions.
“This is what inspires me to reach out through my social media to show girls and women to be who you are and that you don’t have to be afraid or embarrassed to show your nerdy side.”
How did you get to where you are and what challenges did/do you face?
“I got where I am today by just being strong no matter what, never giving up. I have tons of support and love through my family, my boyfriend and friends.
“I am grateful for every mistake and struggle because I wouldn’t be the person that I am. Some challenges I used to face mainly consisted of bullying when I was younger. Always criticized that I liked what the guys liked or was told what I was doing or liked was a ‘guy’ thing. It was hard to make friends.
“Now, I have met so many inspiring nerdy girls and women through life over the years and through my social media whom I am proud and happy to call friends.”
Who is your she-ro?
“My SHE-RO is Carrie Fisher. A badass and beautiful example of how to be utterly fearless to the end!”
What is your favorite quote?
