In Her Own Words
“A lifelong writer, my career has spanned print and digital journalism, broadcast reporting and editorial leadership, later transitioning to global marketing. With over a decade of experience across multiple industries – from fashion and beauty to retail, software and endurance sports – I believe now, more than ever, in the power of masterful marketing to captivate, fascinate and ultimately motivate my target audience. Can you tell I’m passionate about my work?
“I have been so privileged in my career to learn from many talented editors, coworkers and interview subjects. Today, I pass that along to the writers that I work with, my direct reports at the office and through independent mentoring relationships. We laugh, we share learnings, we offer each other advice and we tell ‘war stories.’ Honestly, the women in my life inspire me as much as I hope to inspire them!”
“Honestly, the women in my life inspire me as much as I hope to inspire them!”
What inspired you to do the work that you do/motivates you today?
“As a classic Type-A personality, nothing powers me like my own inner engine. I’ve never settled for less than ‘giving it my all,’ and each day I try my best to be even better than I was yesterday. Of course, that also applies to my own ability to relax. One of the greatest lessons I still have to learn, I think, is to know when to put work aside and focus on living life!”
How did you get to where you are and what challenges did/do you face?
“Again, my Type-A personality has a lot to do with the answer to this question. My biggest challenge has always been knowing when to give myself a break. It’s not about perfection, it’s about progress, right? I try to keep the 80%-20% rule in mind. That 20%, whether it applies to work, cleaning the house or even chocolate, is where you have to let yourself relax the rules. It’s the time you take a grace note and riff on the tune – or just have fun humming through the next verse.”
Who is your she-ro?
“Do I have to pick just one? My best friend, my Aunts Dolly and Joyce, my niece Abby, Queen Elizabeth I, Eleanor Roosevelt, Audrey Hepburn, Frida Kahlo, Fran Lebowitz, Judy Blume, Lena Dunham, Ramona Quimby, Moll Flanders and Belle. I could go on!”
