Jacqueline Twillie is the Founder and CEO of ZeroGap and also the best-selling author of Navigating The Career Jungle : A Guide for Young Professionals. Her focus on the gender wage gap and empowering women is one that we just had to let her tell herself. You can see immediately why she is this Monday’s Modern Muse!
“A few years ago I learned about the gender wage gap through an the Levo League. I was in disbelief, but, after researching and learning the wage gap was real, I got ticked off and decided to do something about it. That’s when I began studying the science and techniques of negotiation up to three hours a day. Later, I began teaching negotiation workshops, and I knew I was on the right track with my life. I just couldn’t shut up about the wage gap and women needing to speak up and ask for what they are worth.
“I founded ZeroGap a few years after I began teaching women to negotiate because I knew that I had to do more than throw pebbles at this massive issue. ZeroGap’s mission in to equip women with the tools that take agency in their lives and careers. The training seminars that we develop build stronger leaders that increase the bottom line but also keeps women engaged in the workforce.
“ZeroGap is a full-service firm that provides leadership development training. We offer one- to two-day training seminars, individual and team negotiation strategy, leadership coaching, and Women’s Employee Resource Group programming services. I set strategy and develop curriculum for training courses for the company. In addition to running day-to-day operations, I speak at conferences and am working on my next book which will focus on the topic of women and negotiations.”
“I’m inspired by the women in my life, from my grandmother, mother, aunts, cousins, friends. I look around me and see women who are great at work they do. They are also passionate and leave no stone unturned. When I look at their tenacity, it sparks my fire!”
How did you get to where you are and what challenges did/do you face?
“My mom is my rock; she encourages me. When I get in a rough place and don’t know what to do next, she’s the one who encourages me, very firmly, to keep going and figure it out. I also surround myself with A-List friends, not celebrities but people who understand that challenges are a part of the journey of life and business. My friends will brainstorm with me on challenges in my business and then pick up the phone and make connections to help me get things done.”
Who is your she-ro?
“I don’t have just one. When I see a woman winning, she’s my she-ro!”
What is your favorite quote?
“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious, and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” – Walt Disney
